ThemeForest is Live
September 2, 2008
Regular readers of Help Developer would have probably noticed how excited I have been over the past weeks that ThemeForest has been in private beta as I have been anticipating the launch. Today I am pleased to announce that ThemeForest opened it’s doors to everyone and in this post, I am going to give you a general overview of the new site from Envato.
ThemeForest is a site where you can buy and sell templates for websites, wordpress, drupal, joomla and just about any other CMS out there and it’s cheap as well, prices start from just $10 per template rising as the quality gets better meaning that there are bargains to be had.
On the theme makers side, you receive 25% of the earnings which will increase over time to 50%. There has been some talk that this is too low but when you consider the amount of people already lining up ready to get on the site to start buying you can start to understand that there is some serious money to be made.
The site was launched into the public domain today and you can go over an sign up for an account here, if you already have an account on FlashDen or AudioJungle then you don’t need to sign up because your login works on all three sites as one account.
I have high hopes for ThemeForest and it looks like it is going to be a massive success, the Envato team have put a lot of effort in over the past couple of weeks as I and many other designers have been working hard to get themes created and the team have been working hard to get any bugs fixed before launch, the site now has a nice collection of themes available and there will be a lot more to come over the next few weeks as developers start using the site, there is also a launch competition to try and get you designing. So get yourself over there even if its just to have a look around, you might find something you like. Click here to go to Theme Forest (referral link, support Help Developer)

Hey,
only 25% (-50% later) of the earnings for theme developers? That sounds like a *complete* rip-off to me. Shouldn’t it be the other way round with the 25%?
I’m not experienced in this field, but that announcement baffled me no end. Is that (starting) percentage common?
