New Writer: Drew Douglass (A Self Introduction)

July 9, 2008

Hello readers and guests of Help-Developer.com, my name is Drew Douglass and I will be writing articles, blog posts, and tutorials alongside Simon. I would like to take the time to tell you more about myself, where I come from, and what I plan on bringing to Help-Developer.com.

Before going any further, I would like to send my sincerest thanks to Simon for the opportunity to join the Help-Developer team, as I have been a long time fan and reader of the site.

A little about me…

Well, as I mentioned my name is Drew Douglass, I am a 21 year old freelance web developer and designer located in Missouri, USA. I am currently finishing my IT degree at Columbia College and have been involved in building, designing, and maintaining websites for a little under four years.

I am somewhat of a CSS addict, and also enjoy PHP, MySQL, Unix, and photo editing software such as Fireworks and GIMP. I am a tropical fish nut and have been an avid hobbyist since I was a young child, I also built the framework and run the tropical fish website AquariaChat.com. In addition to AquariaChat, I run my own blog, CreatingDrew.com, whose theme and subject is very similar to that of Help-Developer’s. In my free time I enjoy cooking, gardening, hockey, playing guitar, and spending way too much time lurking on coding forums, such as Help-Developers new forum.

Some of my dislikes include using tables for design (see:Seybold Seminars), any version of Internet Explorer (see:Whats wrong with IE?), and of course using editors like Frontpage to code a design (sends shivers down my spine thinking about it).

My purpose…

My purpose here is to bring quality posts, tutorials and information to Help-Developer. If you have been a long time reader of the site, you no doubt have noticed how popular Help-Developer has become. With this large spike in activity and success, comes the need for more resources and time that need to be devoted to the site. I hope to provide you with at least 3 quality posts a week.

While my style and interests are very similar to Simon’s, there are a few subjects in particular I will be focusing on. Such topics include: CSS tutorials/tricks/hacks, programming and coding techniques and practices, free web templates, photo editing software, and PHP/MySQL scripts and tips.

The future of Help-Developer.com

The future is looking very bright for Help-Developer.com. In addition to the quality posts, blogs, and links that can be found here, Help Developer has launched a brand new forum that I will be a very active part of. I encourage all of you to stop by and check out the new web developer forum. It is a fantastic place to get advice, help with a project or code, or just chat with web developers like yourself.

So, with all that said, I would like to say thanks again to Help-Developer for this opportunity, thank you all for your time, and I truly look forward to meeting and chatting with my fellow Help-Developer readers! If anyone has any questions they would like to ask please feel free to leave a comment below, or come visit me on the forum.
