Firefox 3 Review

Ok, so I have been using Firefox 3 for the past couple of days and I must say I am quite impressed. Here is a very short review of the new Firefox from Mozilla.

I use Linux (ubuntu) so getting it on my system was a little harder than Windows, but once it was up and running I had no real problems. When it finished installing and I loaded it up the first time, it checked whether my addons were compatible, there were only a few that actually were so I had to get rid of a whole load of them which is really bad. I would have thought that Mozilla would have added support for the old 2.x addons. This is a shame but the main ones still work like the Web Developer Toolbar and FireFTP.

One of the best features I think is the new URL field drop down feature. Its just makes finding the website a lot easier, it also searches through each URL, so say for example I type theme, this is what is shown:

-

Browsing is also made easier, now little icons are shown in the URL field so you can add to your bookmarks with very little effort, clicking the icon again allows you to edit details.

-

Another great feature is that when you type in a password instead of showing an alert window, a little bar comes across the top asking if you would like to save the password. This means that you can wait until you have successfully logged in before saving the password.

-

Finally, the best feature of the new Firefox is the speed, it is a hell of a lot faster than Firefox 2.x. This is fundamental because Firefox’s previous advantage was its speed but over time this has been forgotten so it is nice to see that they have gone back to this position. It is definately worth upgrading, visit http://firefox.com to download.

I really like Firefox 3 as well, especially the new address bar feature and password manager bar (Remembering incorrect passwords was so annoying!).

Just wondering, but have you experienced random vanishings of Firefox? After I first installed it, I’d start it up, minimize it, then when I go to get back to it, it’s gone. It’s fine now,m but I’ve also experienced it on my other computers.

    Anyway, nice review! :)
