Adding multiple images into one in The Gimp

A member of my gimp news/tutorial site and forum howtogimp asked this question:

Can anyone show me how to put 4 separate photos into one photo?

So here it is, a simple tutorial of how you can add 4 separate images together into one.

  1. Create a new image, make it a decent size in order to have ample space to add each of the images. You can change the size later by using the Canvas Size option on the Image menu.
  2. Now use the Open As Layers option on the File menu:

  3. Find each of the images you would like to add and click Open. Each image should now have its own separate layer on the Layers window

  4. Now one by one and use the move tool (shortcut: “M”) to move the images into place, until you have something like this (or however you want it).

  5. And that’s it, a simple way to add multiple images to one image.
